Titanique U.K.

Titanique is one of the U.K’s top musicals of 2025 playing in London’s Criterion Theater filled with laughter, tears, and the collection of Celine Dion’s classic catalogues. If you ever find yourself with the opportunity to catch this once in a lifetime telling of the classic 3 hour long story of the titanic shortened to about an hour, take it, especially if your love for Celine Dion is as great as the performances from the cast and crew. You will find that her spirit will live on in this hilarious depiction of the real life tragedy from 1912 as our main character Celine Dion tells us about her curious adventure on board the ship as it finds its way to it’s destination… the bottom of the sea. As her character recounts, as the unreliable narrator, how the ship sinks on that faithful night it becomes clear that she is the real reason for James Cameron’s success in film version of Titanic in 1997. However, if that’s not enough reason to make the perilous journey with timeless characters like Jack and Rose, who Celine see’s herself as, and that terrible giant ice berg it’s also worth noting that in the U.K production a portion of the proceeds are donated to the London Gay Pride festival and for great reasons… Spoiler Alert! There’s a wonderful drag scene comparable to that of Rupauls Drag Race!

While not everyone makes it out alive, Celine Dion absolutely stays forever young as she recounts how “her” timeless love tale forces her to drop her precious memories of Jack into the sea. The characters you meet on board the ship bring the story to life as we dive into the world of Jack and Rose’s mysterious love affair as we set sail towards our final destination. The expression of the character’S leave room for us to survive the unfortunate ship wreck but make no mistake this retelling of the beautiful story told nearly 30 years ago is no ship wreck. The songs and story telling brings vibrant color to the age old love story and make it blatantly obvious that this cisgender white story is wonderfully gay with a, spoiler alert, flamboyant Jack, naive Rose, and her butch Mother, as well as her closeted fiancé, and with a devious iceberg in full on drag. The cast is supported by a masterful 3 piece band on drums, guitar, and piano bringing an exciting energy as they play Celine’s most popular songs and bring to life the characters, their moods, and even theirselves at some points. The music and performances of the whole cast is nothing to sneeze about and make you wish they didn’t tell you you’re not allowed to sing or record any of the bits from the show. They truly leave you fulfilled by the end of the show.

As Roses mother forces her to wed a rich man whom she doesn’t love and hardly touches, she finds herself having real conversations with Jack who is sure of himself, and in the end finds herself having an emotional and at one point intimate affair that iconically paints her in a light that the audience can find relatable. As the story treads on it becomes clear that everyone become involved in her escapades and we see exactly what Rose gives up for herself and her poor mother in this passionate flame. Destined to be a washer woman forever, etched into the lower class of society forever, or doomed as her masculine mother would see it, Rose gives up her life of fortune with her inconsiderate and closeted husband for what would be a short lived romance with a flaming Jack we see a spark between the red head and Leonardo DiCaprio-esq man that lights up the stage. The iceberg comes to life in a drag show where the characters, spoiler alert, have to lip-sync for their lives in a rupaul style death match where we all know who is likely to survive. Ultimately the only survivor who recounts the tale as old as time is of course Celine Dion who becomes the main character on top of would be Rose as well as some of the other characters on the ship. The show leaves you wanting to listen to the rest of Celine’s catalogue and i would be lying if I didn’t say i had her discography on repeat in the days after the show. I highly recommend this musical for anyone who’s scene the original film as well as anyone related to the tragedy as it highlights Celine Dion’s success as opposed to that terrible tragedy all those years ago. All in all, the play was spectacular as it was exciting and leaves nothing to be desired except to go again with friends and explore the magique of the Titanique as Dion’s accent would put it. 5/5 hilarious musical.
